When we had our two children, we sat with them for a few days before naming them. It seemed like we needed to get to know them a bit before assigning something as important as their name. And the same has been true of our homestead. Without a major river, creek, or other landmark to lend an obvious name, it was up to us to get to know the land. We wanted something that really fit; fit the land, and fit our sensibilities. And we finally hit upon a name that we like. It’s simple, easy to speak aloud, and yet it speaks to the work that we’re doing, planting seeds of a new life:
Acorn Hill Homestead.
This month, we’re also planting seeds of a new business: Acorn Hill Handcrafts. Inspired by the beauty of our homestead, and handcrafted with care and love, Acorn Hill Handcrafts will feature beautiful black walnut cutting boards, wrought iron coat racks and hanging rods, Waldorf-inspired woodcrafts, and more, depending on where our skills and inspiration lead us. We are anticipating opening our shop on February 1st, and I look forward to sharing it with you then!
Congratulations on finding a wonderful name for your homestead and congratulations on your handcrafted shop! We’ve got an off-grid thing going in NM and just found our name too. We’ll be doing pickles and we’re calling it the Arletta Pickle Company (Arletta is Cool Hand Luke’s mom).
Looking forward to the shop and reading about your homesteading adventures in 2014!
Congratulations on your new business! sounds delicious!
Very fitting name. I too am looking forward to learning more about your shop. P.S. you’re car will be fine…….internal rattling of exhaust, especially cat converter is not uncommon. Please pass this along to Brian and thank him for his call to me today. Best wishes.
Thanks so much for your help Patty! Such a relief to talk to you about the car! Hope we get a chance to see you again soon.
