And so we prepare, for the birth of Acorn Hill Handcrafts. We've set our sights on a February 1st opening date, and we will use every second to get ready! There are still items to be sanded and finished, photos to be taken, descriptions to be written, and shipping information to be figured out. But when all is said and done, we will have a small, but lovely array of handcrafted items made of wood sourced from our Oregon and Missouri homesteads, and iron that has been wrought by hand over a coal forge by my blacksmith husband. Naming Our Homestead
When we had our two children, we sat with them for a few days before naming them. It seemed like we needed to get to know them a bit before assigning something as important as their name. And the same has been true of our homestead. Without a major river,creek, or other landmark to lend an obvious name, it was up to us to get to know the land. We wanted something that really fit; fit the land, and fit our sensibilities. And we finally hit upon a name that we like. It's simple, easy to speak aloud, and yet it speaks to the work that we're doing, planting seeds of a new life: Acorn Hill Homestead.
