High Mowing Seeds Gift Certificate – Who doesn’t love a good seed catalog? High Mowing Seed Company has been one of my favorite sources of non-GMO and organic seeds for the past 20 years. Now that I live right in their backyard, I can fully indulge my obsession (I mean, make well-thought out purchases of necessary seeds). Gift certificates are available in any amount for your favorite grower.
I think this is the cutest idea – when these pencils are too short to write with, you can plant them to grow herbs, vegetables, and flowers!
Fishers All Steel Pruning Shears
Ideal for cutting stems and light branches (up to 5/8” diameter), these pruning shears are perfect for cut flowers, veggie harvests, and light tree pruning. At the end of the season, cut your spent veggies with these shears, and leave the roots in the ground to decompose.
When we lived in Oregon, we met a blacksmith named Tuli Fisher. He and Brian quickly became friends over their shared love of the forge and hot metal. Tuli went on to develop a line of beautiful garden tools – I think they would be the perfect gift for the discerning gardener in your life!
Books for Gardeners and Homesteaders
Books are one of the best gifts I can think of for the gardener/homesteader in your life. Continuous learning and growing is what makes homesteading fun!

Handcrafted Pack Basket
How is a pack basket NOT useful? I have friends who use them daily, in lieu of a floppy backpack. In them goes clothing, water, extra food, books – you name it! I also imagine them the perfect container for a lucky harvest of Chicken of the Woods or morels.
I have been admiring Penny Hewitt’s creations a while, and look forward to the day when I can attend one of her Ash Pack Basket workshops to make my own.
Until then, one of her one-of-a-kind baskets makes the perfect gift for a homesteader.
Gifts for Chicken Lovers
This mug is my constant companion, filled with chai most days, and with herbal tea when I have a cold. I love the sturdy shape and beautiful glaze colors, and most of all, I love the chicken. In fact, I have two of these mugs because I love them so much!
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve put eggs in my jacket pocket, walked back from the chicken coop and ended up with a pocketful of yolk! Thank goodness for these adorable egg gathering aprons. Your chicken-loving friends will thank you!
Homestead Kitchen Essentials
Instead of fumbling around for your jar of lard, realizing that you can’t fit your spatula inside and walking away with an unconditioned cast iron skillet, simply keep one of these bars close by and give your cast iron the love it needs!
I do so admire a pretty jar and these Weck canning jars are mighty adorable! Use them for canning, leftovers, food storage, or homemade body products. These glass jars come with glass lids, rings and clamps for no fuss use.
Gifts for the Homesteader who has Everything
I’m a sucker for beautiful yarn and even more so for a story behind the yarn. A few years ago my friend Janet of Timber Creek Farm sent me a skein of her gorgeous multi-fiber yarn. I dyed it with goldenrod and knit it into a cowl that gets compliments everywhere I go.
Janet has natural skeins of yarn available in her shop, and she also offers hand-dyed skeins made with natural dyes. These would make the perfect gift for the knitter in your life 🙂
At the end of a long day on the homestead, you might find yourself with some achy muscles. Lucky for you, dandelion is not only a wonderful weed and tasty green, but it also soothes achy muscles and chapped skin.
My 10-year old daughter, Ella, and I make these salves from dandelion that we wild-harvested (meaning, saved our garden from!), organic olive oil, and local beeswax. Their 2 oz size makes them a perfect gift or stocking stuffer for teachers, co-workers, and friends.
