This week’s snow has created a winter wonderland of fresh powder. While I love it, the chickens remain unsure. They do venture out of their coop each day, but tend to cluster near, and under buildings, soaking up sun and warmth.
The little fruit trees that we planted last year are just barely peeping out of the snow drifts. This sour cherry did not grow quite as vigorously as many of the other trees.
The number one reason why I love living in a four season climate: snow fun. Despite the fact that I grew up in New England, I did not discover cross country skiing until I was a senior in college in Maine. Then I moved to Southern California and Oregon, and my skis sat in the barn except for a once or twice a year trip to the mountains. This week I’ve been going out for a ski every day, and it is truly blissful to just clip on the skis, and explore the world out my front door.
