Big Berkey Water Purifier Giveaway

I’m not exaggerating when I say that the MOST important piece of equipment on our homestead is a Big Berkey water filter, so that is why I’m so excited that I have the chance to give away a Big Berkey today!

We rely on rain and snow-melt for our drinking and cooking water needs, using our metal roof to funnel water into several 50 gallon food-grade buckets.

Rainwater catchment system | Homestead Honey

To make the water potable, we pour it into our Berkey filter and let the Berkey filtration process turn our rainwater into the most deliciously pure water you could imagine. The entire process happens without electricity.

The Big Berkey is a 2.25 gallon water purifier, which makes it perfect for small- to medium-sized families, or outdoor activities. Its filtration system is so powerful that it removes viruses, pathogenic bacteria, pesticides, and much more, without stripping the water of beneficial minerals.

United Environmental Solutions is one of the top distributors of Berkey water systems. Today, the amazing folks at United Environmental Solutions (UES) have generously offered a Big Berkey water purifier to one lucky reader.  Thank you so much to UES for this opportunity!

  1. thanks for the chance to win! we would love to win the Big Berkey because we desperately need to get away from using plastic bottles / gallon jugs!!!

  2. My husband and I are in the process of digging our well and setting up rain barrels on our new off grid homestead. We’ve been looking at a Berkey for a long time now and this would be an absolutely wonderful gift. Thanks so much for the chance to win a Big Berkey!

  3. heather says:

I like that it doesn’t use electricity and removes all sorts of harmful things, such as bacteria and pesticides. Can be used anywhere.

  4. Awwwww there’s no way to enter if I’m not on facebook? :( I’ve wanted a Berkey for SO LONG!

  5. we have homesteaded with our family for many yrs and are looking to purchase a water filter that works for our lifestyle. we would love to win yours as we live where conventional farming by amish has ruined many of our water sources. thank you for this opportunity!!!

  6. I would love to win a Berkey because we have a lake AND a pond on our property and we could use it to filter in an emergency. Most of all we have well water. Although, I love the well water and the fact that it is ‘living’ water, it smells terrible and tastes irony, lol. Thanks for the chance!

  7. Jada W. says:

I would love to have a Berkey because we are on well water, but we live in the city so it kind of makes me worry that something could easily get into our water. With a berkey I wouldn’t have to worry as much.

  8. I would love a Berkey water filter because I just moved to the woods and will be building a property. Being self-sufficient is a primary goal of our’s. We live near a creek and this would be great to be able to purify water from there and the natural spring!

  9. I want this so very, very badly. I live in the city, yet I boil all the water I use because I think it tastes and smells bad. I wont even use it to brush my teeth with. This would be such a blessing to this house hold. Besides my 61st. birthday is the day after the drawing and that indeed would be a great gift. I follow most of all these fb pages anyway. They are all full of great information for newbies like myself wanting to get back to a better way of living. So Good Luck to Me.

  10. I would love to win this because I can’t stand our cloudy nasty water

  11. Michelle S says:

I have been researching different water filtration systems and love the Berkey the best. I would love to get rid of the under the sink water filters that cost a fortune and can’t be recycled!!

  12. I would love this for my family, especially for emergencies so I don’t have to worry about the purity of the water we’re drinking, especially the kids.

  13. This is one of the big items we are saving for (along with a small solar generator to power our daughters asthma machine) this would be a huge blessing for our family. Thank you for offering the giveaway and congratulations to the winner!

  14. This has been on the wish list for such a very long time. We are working on creating a more sustainable lifestyle on our mini farm. We are also hoping to create an education area to help pay forward their lessons that have learned. This is such an amazing giveaway.

  15. We are looking for land with a river to move and improve our small homestead and become self-sustaining. We were just discussing yesterday that we would need a good water filtration system :) We would love to win this one!!!!

  16. Our family could really use one of these. We travel and you never know what is going to be in the water. We currently use an electric powered filtration system but when we are in remote areas that doesn’t help us very much and that is usually when we need it the most.

  17. Phyllis says:

I would like this to supply my own water. Plain & simple, I don’t always trust the public water supply

  18. This is so incredible! I just started reading your blog yesterday and have read pretty much every post. I am so inspired by your life and ache to get started on my homesteading journey. I would love a Big Berkey filtration system to know that no matter where I end up, I will always have clean pure water.

  19. I have well water in Florida. And the treatment it takes to make it usable also makes it unfit to drink. So we have to buy bottled water from the store every week just to have water to drink. I would love to have a Berkey water filter. Thanks for the chance to win!

  20. Marie U says:

I’ve been wanting one of these systems forever, but something else always comes up that we need to purchase instead. Winning one would make it work even better!! 😉

  21. Pam Allen says:

Wow, a filtration system would be awesome. We just installed our first rain barrel which currently serves as our water source for our chickens & backyard watering. However, we can add 4 more barrels to our roof gutters & with that kind of filter transform our house drinking water!

  22. Katie M says:

I live in the city which chlorinates their water but we are purchasing a hone in the country but wells here typically have high arsenic…..would love one of these.

  23. I love the Berkey water filter systems and have been wanting one for so long. Thanks for offering this contest. Your blog is wonderful.

  24. Britten says:

Beacuse WOW Its awesome!! We have a well and the water can be iffy at times. To be free from buying water from the store would be amazing!

  25. We’re planning on drinking rainwater when we move to our off-grid property, this would be perfect! Thanks for introducing me to this filtration system, seems more simple than what we were previously thinking.

  26. this has been on the NEED list for a while now! wowee I hope I win!!!

  27. We are in the process of building rain barrel catchment systems at our house. We would love to be able to use it for more than the garden, so the Berkey System would be so awesome! I have been waiting to here more about it from you each time I see it in any of your post photos. :-)

  28. I have wanted a Berkey for a very long time. I presently have a RO under my sink and a whole-house filter at the source, both of which are rented. As a single Mom, would love to be free of the monthly rental fees for filtering and still having delicious, clean water to drink. Thank you for an awesome blog and a great contest!

  29. We have been looking for a good flirtation system and this one sounds awesome!

  30. I would love to start collecting rainwater and be able to drink it. This filter would be perfect!

  31. I would love to win this! It would be so beneficial to be able to drink rain and creek water in addition to using it for the garden!

  32. Bridget says:

I would love love love to win the Big Berkey. I had one (jointly with my then room-mates) a few years ago and the taste of the water from this filter was mind blowing. It ruins you for any other source of water. I’m also wanting to filter out the fluoride, chlorine and heavy metals in our water (have old old pipes)

  33. We just bought an acreage and would love to do this EXACT thing! Thanks for the giveaway!

  34. Oh how exciting! We plan on making our homestead dreams come true in a year’s time, and we know well how important a Berkey is to that dream!

  35. Mary White says:

I would like to have this water to filter the water we get from a nearby natural spring.

  36. michele says:

Thanks for the chance to win. Would love to be able to filter my county water as visions of more country homesteading dance in my head. :0)

  37. Melanie says:

We would love to win in our quest for self sufficiency. We are on a 6 year plan to be off grid and subsistence sufficient!

  38. Melissa says:

Thanks for the chance to win. We’d love to be able to filter our water. My son often uses his “help money to give to programs providing clean drinking water. I’d love to take our home drinking water to the next level and remove the chlorine.

  39. Heather says:

I have been wanting one of these water filter systems. Over a year ago I took control of my health, gave up all artificial sweeteners, processed foods, preservatives, dairy, and became a vegetarian. I started organic juicing on a daily basis, added green smoothies to my diet, and stopped taking all traditional medications. My health is better than it ever has been and 99% of all my daily nagging health ailments have subsided. I would love to have this filter to continue my journey to health. These are the best filters on the market by far!

  40. Would absolutely LOVE to have one of these, but they’re so far out of our economic reach, atm -sigh- Really could have used it last week, when we were hit with another [roughly bi-monthly] boil order -lol- Can’t wait until we’re no longer stuck with apartment living, and can finally get out and start our little homestead. ^_^

  41. Hi,thanks for our chance to win, the Berkey Water Purifier would be great for our off grid camping back on our 40 hidden acres.. thank you

  42. This water filter would be so great for my family, thank you for the opportunity :-)

  43. I already have this filter, and it’s just fabulous! My sons ask for water all the time, certainly something I didn’t do while growing up.

  44. Brandi Jimenez says:

I would love to win this off grid water filter!

  45. A Big Berkey is the next thing on the list to finish our off-grid cabin’s water system. The gutters went up three weeks ago and the five rain barrels were installed last weekend. Whether we win or not- we will have a Berkey soon enough! Best of luck to everyone!

  46. Barb S. says:

I would love this filter because I can’t stand the taste of city water. It tastes like chlorine. And we hope to have a homestead one day, so I’m stocking up on supplies and learning what I need to learn.

  47. Absolutely love these filters – would love to win!

  48. Gosh, I’d love to have a Berkey. I’ve used one while camping, and adored it! I am on city water at the moment, but we always leave the water out with a cloth on top to let it “de-cholrinate” as best we can. Some of the places we are considering moving have springs and running water on them, so this would be a wonderful investment to our safe-drinking future!

  49. My husband and i live in the middle of a coal mining area. Also with the natural gas industry hustle and bustle in our area we’re concerned about our drinking water (we run off a well which has sulfer to the MAX anyhow). we use a small brita filter but it doesn’t seem to be fast enough or work well enough to get all the gunk out of out water

  50. We’re recent transplants to the country and are in the process of replacing our well pump, pressure tank, and pump wiring and hose. This and other surprise transition expenses have left us unable to afford a good filtration system and our water (when it’s running) has a strong flavor and lots of sediment that we’d like to remove before drinking. Plus until we get it going again, it would be nice to have something a little more proven than a filter pitcher for all the jugs of water we’re bringing home from the grocery store. It would be so great win this system we’ve had our eye on. Thanks for hosting this giveaway.

    • I just realized that I can’t enter because I don’t have a facebook account. I’m still glad you’re having the contest because it’s good to know that someone will get a great filter, even if it’s not me.

  51. Chresta says:

Awesome give away! We live in FL on well water. I have always wanted one and, with hurricane season right around the corner, this would be super to have!

  52. Teri – did I tell you we’ve pretty much decided we’re building a straw bale house when we finally get to southern Missouri. (We’re still waiting for our Utah homestead to sell!) We’re gonna need one of these Berkeley bad boys since we’ll pretty much be camping until the house gets built. I’m hoping we at least have a barn to find refuge in when those Missouri storms blow. Yikes, what an adventure! I’m pretty much using you as my personal hero right now.

  53. Susan Higuchi says:

My hubs doesn’t believe in prevention or preparation….until it is needed and I have found a way to acquire it or not…lol let’s face it, he’s cheap for that kind of stuff. I have been interested in one of these for a while now but I either have to win one or the lottery….

  54. I would love to win this as it has been on our list for a couple of years. Our well water is not that great so we buy bottled water to drink. This would save us money!

  55. I live in Astoria Queens which has been rated as one of the most polluted areas in the 5 boroughs of NYC. I am within 2 miles of a waste water treatment facility and feel that the water we use is unsafe. I hope to win this water filter so I can confidently use the water in our home to cook and care for my family.

  56. Amber Goron says:

Would love to win one…I am currently redoing an old 1940’s shed to call home…and doing it all by hand. This would be perfect. Thank you!!!

  57. Heather says:

We are gathering supplies debt free to set up our off the grid homestead.
    Love your blog!

  58. The Birky would help me feel confident that I was providing safe and clean water for my family!

  59. Elizabeth says:

This would be so helpful to my family.

  60. We live in the country and love it! We get all of our water from roof collection into a cistern, how this would help is immense, we now have to boil all of our water on our woodstove….gets a wee bit warm in the summer!!

  61. Catherine Griffice says:

Pure water is a source of life….

  62. kristin says:

i would like to be abel to remove the flouride from our water as well as have fresh room temp water at all times… filtered!

Even though we are on a well share, this would definitely add some piece of mind..

  66. Jennifer says:

I would love to get away from using city water and transition to collecting our own.

  67. With the drought in CA our water needs filtered before drinking. This would work great!!

  68. I love the Berkey system because it is non-electric and can move with me easily from our small home to traveling. I hope I win, I have been coveting one of these systems for years!

  70. Courtney says:

I’ve been wanting a Berkey Water Filtration for years now we have a 6 month old and clean water is even more important. Plus I’m tired of lugging gallon glass bottles full of water up 3 flights of stairs to our apartment. Thank you! ps I love your blog it is so inspiring:)

  71. We would love to win the Berkey filter. We moved into our tiny home last fall. We are still saving up to get a well drilled so in the mean time we have to buy bottled water or haul city water (yuck) from my in-laws. The Big Berkey has been on our wishlist since we started talking about becoming self sufficient. To be able to ditch the store bought bottled water and be able to drink what nature provides would be amazing!

My husband and I enjoy reading your blog and I just have to tell you that your kids are just too cute.

    • Teri Page says:

We love grinding our own cornmeal! We’ve grown our own a few times, but have also purchased some dry corn from our friend. You’re right – there is nothing like making polenta from freshly ground corn!

Thank you for sharing your post with me – beautiful corn!

    • Teri Page says:

Thank you Penny! I hope you get your well drilled soon so you can enjoy your own water!

  72. Matt Berry says:

We are in the process of setting up a mini organic farm in the midst of large commercial farms. Our water is full of residual chemical soil treatments and not suitable for drinking. A Berkey water filter would be incredibly helpful.

  73. Laura P. says:

Our daughter and her family live in a big city. When we visit we can smell and taste the chlorine in the tap water :(
I want to win this water filter so our granddaughter has pure water to drink!

  74. We would love to reduce waste and clean our water for our big 8 person family, not to mention all our fur and feathered babies. I hope I win!

  76. Leann L says:

I want to win this for my in laws. They do so much for us & I know how much we enjoy our berkey & would love for them to have one as well.

  77. Oh my goodness! I would love to win a Berkey! I have wanted one for years now. I want to remove the fluoride and all other contaminants in my water. I’ve heard from several locals that the town I now live in has some of the worst water in the entire state! Yikes!!!

  78. Shelly Graves says:

I would LOVE a Berkey Water Filter!! Our family of (almost 8) has been wanting one for so long, but they are so pricey! We’d love to have healthier water for all us! :)

  79. My wife has been wanting one for quite a while and we can’t afford it. I’d love to do this for her!

  80. SedonaMichelle says:

I have had my eye on the Berkey for awhile but its just not in our budget right now! Thanks for the opportunity to win!

  81. We would love to win this for our family! Thanks for the chance :)

  82. I would love to win a Big Berkey so that we can start collecting and actually using rain water for more than just watering plants!

  83. Aubrey collins says:

My husband comes home and drains our water every night from the Brita pitcher- it’s not big enough and we have had water scares 2 times in the last year. Plus, I hate that the Brita is made of 100% plastic- which I try to avoid. Winning this would set my mind at ease and just be really great.

  84. I need to win this because we just bought a 1924 house that has old pipes, thank you!

  85. I would love to have a way to know water we drink is safe and clean!

  86. Vicki Scott says:

We have purchased and are gradually fixing a bug out homestead which is on a well. The water is full of calcium and other minerals to the point of affecting how soaps lather, and leaving serious residue on dishes. A Berkey would allow us to drink the water from the well and from rain runoff without buying so many plastic bottles, which are not good for the environment or for us!

  87. I’ve got a berkey and LOVE it. If I win I’ll give the new one to my parents for their little cabin in the woods :)

  88. jacklyn leonard says:

I would love a berkey filter as my town is facing serious drought and the only water we have close by is in an old quarry.

  89. I would love to win one of these because I love clean water. When you turn on our tap you are overwhelmed by the chlorine smell. YUK!

  90. Bethany says:

After a dramatic reaction to fluoride in our city water (full body painful rash and hairless for my husband) we stopped drinking tap water and started drinking bottled. We drink a LOT of water so, this has gotten expensive. Winning a Berkey filter would be such a blessing!

  91. Laurie J says:

I have been wanting to purchase a Berkey for quite some time but my budget has yet to allow for it. We have moved and have water saturated with chlorine and fluoride and I purchase jugs of water which is a hassle in so many ways. I also question it’s quality along with dreading the site of too many plastic containers (although I do recycle). Thanks for the chance to win!

  92. I’d love to win a Berkley! We live in north San Diego county and having a major drought. Our water is loaded with chemicals and fluoride.

  93. I have hard water that smells and taste bad, so that is why I want a Berkey.

  94. We live in drought laden southern CA and our water is treated with lots of chemicals and fluoride.

  95. Sienna Morrow says:

I currently own a big berkey filter system and it has completely changed my life! I am entering because I want to share this system with the homeless youth shelter that I work at. It is my goal to help these teens see a new way to live and I think clean water is an integral part of bringing them into clear mental and physical health. The berkey system has changed my life and I’d like to help it change a few more!

  96. Lonneke Griens says:

We are trying everything we can within our budget to raise our beautiful little girls in the healthiest way possible. The berkey water purifier is something I’ve wanted for a long time. Thank you so much for the chance to win one!

  97. Thanks for the opportunity to win!! I would love this for our very hard Texas water. It will benefit my family greatly by purifying the water we drink and prepare/can foods with :)

  98. Karen Hall says:

I would love the Big Berkey filter! Thank you for the giveaway!
